This property is ok, but the bathroom needs maintenance. The toilet takes a very very long time to flush and goes down super slow. The shower is in bad shape with paint chipping on the floor and loose trim pieces. There is basically no tv service so bring lots of dvds. There is no internet access either. Research every everything you want to do and everywhere you want to go before coming. A guidebook with local places to eat and attractions would have been very helpful as would a map of the area that is well marked. The issues with the bathroom are a definite must fix.

Had a fun time at this cottage and hanging at the beach at Castle Rock Lake. The inside did have some nice updates done to it, and it was very comfortable for the 4 of us, with our twin 6 year old boys. We wish the lake access was closer and in walking distance. Good thing we brought our bikes and additional fold out chairs for around the fire pit.

Hi Maureen, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay overall! The homeowner would like to share the following:
-We always look to provide guests with the best experience at our home
-We do include a map on our listing so that guests can see the approximate location of the home before booking. Our property does not have direct access to the lake or the beach, the location details are outlined in the listing description, but we're sorry if this caught you off guard
-As to the outdoor firepit, we have chairs to accommodate all guests' comfort
Our commitment to all our guests is to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests as evidenced in all other reviews. Hope you consider our property again for a future stay!
Cute cottage for a small group or family. Quiet and good to disconnect from a busy life. Communication with the host was easy and prompt. It doesn't have direct access to the lake but there is a beach nearby which makes the staying enjoyable.

We were told we were the first guests to stay at this property. The owner called to chat before our arrival to discuss some things, which was nice. Upon arrival it had not been cleaned, but the owner answered our call and had the cleaning person out within a half hour. There are a couple little things here and there that you can tell are either future projects or improvements they haven't had time to make yet, but overall the property has seen a ton of investment. The biggest thing to us, was how the property was portrayed in the pictures. It's not very big or secluded. Neighbors on all sides and relatively close, but not too bad. The one neighbor seemed mildly annoyed that we were there and came to post a "No Trespassing" sign at corner of his lot without saying hi, yet complaining to the cleaning person about it being a rental. From the pictures, you get the sense the property is right on the water, which it is not. There is no water access at all. But there is a beach a short drive south at this little bar/restaurant that is very nice. We went there every day. There are also plenty of places to rent pontoons, boats and canoes all around the lake. Plan ahead for any boat, as they will be reserved and are hard to get day of. The little town of Friendship is a short drive away, and has a grocery store, hardware store, restaurants and pretty much anything you might need. Roughly 4 hours from Chicago, this was a great little get-away. This place would be perfect with a golf cart in order to drive down to the beach or ride around the neighborhood. All in all, we would consider renting this place again in the future.
