  • No towels of any kind

    2/5

No bath towels, no hand towels, no kitchen towels. Bedroom wall was stained and looked really gross. Pillows smelled musty. Linens are ancient. Spare toilet paper was moist and moldy. Floor is caving in behind the toilet.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Patrick, we’re sorry to hear your stay did not meet your expectations. The listing does state that towels are not provided, but we are sorry if this caught you off guard. We encourage guests to thoroughly review the listing before booking, to ensure they find the perfect vacation home for their needs. We've followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback and they would like to share the following:
-The discoloration in the bedroom is from the compound used to fix a hole that was left, and will be painted in the upoming months
-While the bedding is only a few months old, we know that preference is unique to each guest and we were sorry to hear that you weren’t comfortable during your stay
-We've double checked all of our paper supplies to ensure that none of them have encountered water
-As is standard in the vacation rental industry, the owner provides a starter amount of toiletries and other essentials, and once that amount is out, it's typical for the guest to purchase more supplies
We've addressed your comments with the relevant teams so that future guests will receive the exceptional service we strive to provide. Thanks for your valuable feedback as we continue to improve!

  • Nice but problems

    3/5

I stayed here for a week, my sister joined me for the last few days. We chose this location for easy access to multiple bike trails in the area (excellent for this!).Positives: 1) No car/road noise; lovely location. 2) Loons calling nightly, hummingbirds flitting around. 3) Well stocked kitchen, although stove had gas leak problems (resolved). 4) Garage space available for bike storage out of elements. 5) Back porch was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the lake view and nice weather. 6) Plenty of comfortable indoor seating. 7) Picnic table is smooth--good work surface outdoors. 8) Firm, supportive beds. 9) Owner on-site was very nice.Negatives: 1) Communication was nonexistent with "guest contact" and the property manager (Evolve). Only automated check-in info was sent (which was wrong, couldn't get in door when I arrived). Specific queries sent to both channels went ignored. When a problem arose with a stove gas leak, the guest contact did not pick up his phone, nor provide an opportunity to leave a message (they were camping with weak cell signal). We ended up shutting off the gas at the main valve. The guest contact then texted me at 11pm after I'd gone to bed to find out what happened. Owner cleaned the stove burners the next day, but the lack of "reachability" for the "emergency guest contact" in a situation like this was not acceptable. 2) The listing specifically states that a canoe/kayak is available, and shows a picture of a canoe on the dock. This is not true. A large rowboat is available. The canoe is not. 3 specific inquiries were sent about this prior to our arrival, and they were ignored. Felt deceptive, since the canoe/kayak was one of the reasons I chose this place to rent. 3) The lighting in the living room is very dim--almost impossible to read or craft by. I did my reading on the back porch. 4) Only Verizon has significant cell coverage out here. My T-mobile phone could not load websites, so I was unable to load maps or weather reports. No WiFi (known), but don't count on using your phone as a hotspot unless you have Verizon. 5) Listing says "coin laundry"--you need to go into town to the laundromat. Not on-site.Conclusion: I got by for this week, using the library in Eagle River for internet access for working and loading documents to my phone/iPad for offline work, and using cell signal when in towns when possible. Due to the negatives listed above, however, I would probably not choose to stay here again.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Roberta, we want all of our guests to rest easy when they stay with us, and we're sorry that you experienced some issues during your trip. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
    - We're glad to hear you enjoyed your overall stay. We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify that before your stay we made some changes to our listing which included the removal of the canoe in the description, Evolve should have reached out to you to inform you of those changes, but we're sorry that you didn't receive that communication and it caught you off guard. I did offer you the use of a kayak, but you politely declined and indicated you had your own and only went down to the lake once or twice.
    - I was surprised to hear that you couldn't contact the guest contact as during that time I was on the premises, I wish you had reached out to me I would have been more than happy to address any concerns or issues you may have had.
    - We have never had this complaint before regarding the lighting, but I will address it and evaluate it to see if it needs brighter lighting.
    - Outside factors such as cell service for certain carriers are completely out of our control.
We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.

  • Nice Cabin

    5/5

Our family really enjoyed our time at this cabin. We all were sad to see our time come to an end. It was very comfortable for our family with 3 children 7 and under. Has a nice area for fires with picnic table. We brought a small motor for the boat and our kids loved going for boat rides. The kids also really enjoyed swimming off the dock with a nice sand bottom. We will definitely book again.

  • Exactly as advertised

    5/5

We had a nice time at this property. No frills, lake experience. Has everything you need to have a great time. Close to downtown St Germain and an east drive to Minocqua. Would gladly stay again.

  • A Kayaking Vacation

    5/5

We rented this cabin for a kayaking vacation. It was a very nice northwoods cabin. Not a 5-star hotel. It was very clean and comfortable. One room has a double bed the other has 2 twins and I think the couches pull out. The owner was very nice and asked more than once if we were having a good time. The living room has big windows that overlook Dam lake and a nice porch that does also. The kitchen has a big table with a nice bank of windows. It is a bright and cheery place. The owner had picked up big sticks and stacked them by the fire pit for us. Just down Dam Lake road, a fun man was selling firewood. He came out to talk and gave us free kindling too. We used the weber grill that was available and it was in excellent condition. It was a little cold and windy to kayak but we did get out a few times. We also had a good time shopping in the nearby towns.
