Comfortable, Clean, Close to the Beach
5/5 The cottage is cozy, clean, colorfully decorated, and located on a quiet, residential street. If you stand in the street in front of the cottage, you can see the steps leading to the beach. It's a very short walk; however, you do have to cross a street that can be busy at times. The beach was quiet, clean, and had very few people. The cottage has an impressive array of quality beach materials that are in good condition, including beach towels, which was a pleasant surprise. There are some eating establishments within walking distance, but most restaurants/cafes require a car. Three of our favorites were the Sandfiddler Cafe (clean, friendly, great blintzes served with fresh strawberries, serve both breakfast & lunch from opening to closing), Bar-Q (BARK) barbecue (excellent ribs and sides), and Press 626 Wine Bar (fresh, seasonal food with excellent service, located in a comfortable, charming house, reservations needed). Communication with Noah was excellent; he answered my questions in a timely manner. We spent three hours walking the grounds of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and we could have stayed longer if our legs would have cooperated. The Gardens is multi-faceted and truly impressive. It is easy to miss any one of the Gardens' sections, so be sure to utilize the map. This was definitely our favorite non-beach activity, and is only a few minutes drive from the cottage. If you're a beach lover, Castaway Cottage is the next best thing to beach front. Highly recommend it.

The property was very accommodating and clean! The host was very prompt to answer any questions!
5/5 The property was adorable! The area was great, very quiet, short 2 minute walk to the beach and close to the Norfolk Naval Base. Plenty of local shops for dinning and convince stores near by, Walmart was a short drive also! The host was very polite and prompt with answers, they even left smores for us to enjoy for our small bomb fire which our returning sailor was very greatful for. We very much enjoyed the quiet fenced in back yard for our puppy! Over all it was perfect for what we needed! I highly recommend this location for naval families visiting their sailors!
