Get up close to the towering trees in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. 'Emerald Gate Farm' borders this natural wonder, and offers hiking trails that begin from the neighboring Cataloochee area. Also, an Elk herd can be seen everyday in Cataloochee Valley and often on the road to this farm.

Emerald Gate is a very nice, quiet getaway to the Asheville, NC area. The home was well suited to our needs, spacious and handy to the local and regional activities and sites. Anyone desiring a visit to this area should consider using this home as a center point. The host was very accommodating and was readily available to assist in any way.

We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful views in a quiet mountain setting. Not far from Waynesville or Maggie Valley. The owner is really nice and helpful if you have questions.

This property is gorgeous and situated in the beautiful nc mountains - not too far from the cataloochee valley or Maggie valley. JC is a fabulous host and provides many opportunities to learn about life on a farm. My kids enjoyed learning about the livestock, ponds and plants. We were able to pick green beans and raspberries. This was a wonderful experience and we hope we can go back soon.

We loved our stay on the farm. It’s the perfect mix of mountain views and yard for kids to play in. The owner is so nice and loves to show you around his property. Our kids loved the dogs and feeding the ducks. The view off the porch in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee can’t be beat!
Emerald Gate Farm was just what I wanted for my week in the mountains with my husband and brother in law and friend. The Farm is well situated where you can enjoy the beautiful mountain view while sitting on the porch drinking your morning coffee and afternoon drinks with family and friends. We enjoyed the farm and loved watching the two dogs patrol the grounds keeping away any predators that might attach the guineas and hens. The babbling brook was intoxicating although you couldn't wad in it due to vegetation growth that grew along its edges. Fantastic grapes, pears, raspberries along with any other seasonal vegetables in John's garden were available to us. We certainly took advantage of his hospitality and enjoyed the fruits and vegetables. Located very close to Waynesville and Maggie Valley was a plus. John, the owner, is on site in his house (not very visible from the VRBO house) and enjoys showing you the property and telling you interesting things about the property and his life as well. We so enjoyed his company and wished we had more time to get to know him. He is very accommodating even taking my brother in law in his ATV to find special wood for his wood carving business. The only downer I can give this wonderful piece of paradise is that the interior of the house is in need of updating. Wall paper is old and the curtains are not in keeping with the rustic appeal of a mountain home. But, keep in mind all four of us are in our early to mid 70's and probably are a little more critical in our thoughts on interior design than younger adults would be. All in all, a most enjoyable experience that we hope to do again. Thank you John. Hope to see you next year.
