We reserved this house because it appears to be nice in the photos and description. We originally reserved for 3 people, but 1 day before we e-mailed asking if it would be ok to add a 4th. We received a friendly reply, assuring us that it was not a problem. Upon arrival we were in for a rude awakening. After flying all day from Europe to Dulles and driving to the house, we arrived at the property at 8pm. In the info given to us, it was explained how to figure out our code to enter through a door with a keyless lock. That didn't work. We thought, no problem, (not actual name) Ms X gave us her number to call with any issues. We tried calling 4 times over the next hour but got no response. I sent several texts to explain that we were locked outside and that it was getting dark, no answer. We tried knocking twice because there were lights and a TV on inside. I called a 5th time, and Ms X finally answered a call at about 9:30pm. I explained the situation, to which she replied that weeks earlier she had cancelled our reservation and had booked someone else in our place, even though there was no record of this whatsoever. We had been charged for the stay. At first I just thought she was mistaken, so I began to explain again who I was, and that we were outside of the house. Ms X's reaction was, too bad, call Evolve VR and sort it out with them. At this point I was beginning to lose my temper, but my wife began to make me calm down. Ms X said too bad for you and hung up the phone. I texted one more time to say that my wife would like to speak with her to understand better. She didn't reply. We sat in the car trying to figure out what to do, and who to contact how for about 20 mins when we looked up to see Ms X peeking out the window at us. She crawled away, but about 5 mins later she stood in the window to called the police on us. As soon as they arrived, I got out and explained what was happening. They went in to speak with Ms X and quickly concluded that she had called them under false pretenses. The officers were extremely helpful with us and after some time were able to get us connected with Evolve. The customer service rep was also extremely helpful and eventually confirmed that this lady was totally in the wrong.
Obviously we didn't stay there in the end, and it took several days to work everything out. Evolve did their best to right this wrong. We were however very shocked to see that this house is still on the site. We assumed she would be blacklisted.
Hi Benjamin, we take it seriously when guests let us know that we missed the mark, and after sending your feedback to the homeowner, they’d like to share the following: This booking had been canceled ahead of check-in as the booking exceeded our maximum occupancy. Multiple attempts were made to get in touch with you to let you know before arrival. We sincerely apologize for any miscommunication and hope that the generous measures made by Evolve helped to make up for the inconvenience.
