Beware if you book this home and there is heavy snowfall no one comes to clear very long steep driveway until 4pm. This results in YOU having to shovel the entire driveway if even your 4-wheel drive vehicle can’t make it out.
My family stayed at this home and enjoyed our stay until the last day when there was quite a bit of snowfall and our 4-wheel drive vehicle couldn’t make it up the long steep driveway. This resulted in my husband(for the most part) and I shoveling about 200 yards of drive way. Checkout was 10am and even after communicating with the homeowner and zero help from her we were kicked out by the police at 11am.
My two young children and 70 year old mother were in the vehicle until 3:30pm when we could get the driveway clear enough to get out. The home provides no wood, chains ext to help when in a bind and the town of Fairplay has two tow truck companies, one was working accidents and the other even stated they couldn’t help us until her driveway was plowed.
When the two cops tried to leave (they parked at the top of the hill) they even fishtailed and struggled for awhile getting out. This information should be shared to renters BEFORE booking.
*My review for the rest of the home
The home and yard itself is absolutely beautiful and spacious. Beds are comfortable but bedding is outdated.
Some cleaning issues like thick dust covering ceiling fans, cobwebs everywhere, grit/grease still on cooking pans, thick Dog hair covering the rug in living room and dog hair on blankets provided in living room, dirty sock left in blanket, and broken couch bed (completely dirty underneath couch when pulling out mattress as well, enough so that the homeowner apologized and sent someone to clean it the next day).
Also worth noting that the bedrooms downstairs have no over head lights just a small lamp and only one plug per outlet that works so if you need to plug anything else in you have to unplug the lamp and are now in the dark.
Owner's response: "Charlie, the right vacation home is everything, and we're sorry if this wasn't the one for you.
- There is information in the listing with snow removal information - "The driveway will be cleared of snow after 4:00 PM when there is any new snowfall accumulation." We provide this information so that our guests are prepared in case of a fresh snowfall.
- The local authorities and the cleaners did not have any issues getting out of the driveway. There are rules for checkout times for a reason and we should all be able to follow them peacefully and respectfully
- We provide 2 cords of stacked wood outside the back door on the deck and fire starters.
- The ceiling fan is located 30 feet off the floor and gets cleaned twice a year. Orkin services come regularly to address the spider issues.
- The cleaning crew was sent to the home the next morning to vacuum the edge of the rug with a few remaining dog hairs
- The couch bed is not broken. It's only made up based on the number of guests that are booked. We usually don't prepare the extra bed unless it's needed
We truly go above and beyond for our guests and are confident that future guests will have excellent stays! We will continue to deliver the 5-star experiences we are known for."
Independently from how dirty the cabin was once we arrived, the whole experience was still beautiful, if the cabin had been cleaned prior to us arriving I would of given 5 starts, but the fact that we had to wash all blankets/towels, clean trash and restrooms… right when we got there during the night it was very exhausting. Also since the house is on a hill, make sure to buy chains for your tires/or mountain tires, we had to pay $260 for a pair when in Dallas they cost $60. wish we would of known.

Owner's response: "Elzi, Thank you for mentioning the beauty of the cabin, we're sorry that you had some issues when you arrived.
- We apologize for the cabin not being cleaned. There was some confusion regarding a previous booking that had been canceled and your newer booking. We did offer to get the cleaners out immediately so that they could get you taken care of, but you refused. You then agreed to have the cleaners come the next morning and refused the cleaning again once they arrived at the house. They observed that there were more people in the cabin than what was booked.
- The cleaners were happy to assist in helping you move the car that was stuck in the road. The driveway was clean and not a problem as they were able to get in and out. We do have verbiage in the listing in regards to winter driving and roads as the Colorado weather is very unpredictable. The cleaning crew purchased a new blender as per your request and provided you with oxygen bottles for your comfort at high altitudes.
- We make rules on capacity not only for the safety of our home but also for the safety of our guests, and liability reasons. If something were to happen we need to know how many people are inside for the authorities and those helping with whatever the situation may be. We understand that things happen and change but as a homeowner, it is only courteous that we be made aware of extra guests or items that break while you are on the property. It's the right thing to do
We truly go above and beyond for our guests, and we are confident that future guests will have excellent stays! We will continue to deliver the 5-star experiences we know we can deliver."
Great and spacious place for mid sized groups. Wide open downstairs, which was great for entertaining and place was equipped with everything needed for cooking. Would rent again!
Great place for a family. Spacious and remote. 38 minutes to Breck. Beds could use updating. Tad uncomfortable. But we made it work.
