• A repulsive sewage disaster upon arrival and a clueless, irresponsible host

  My two kids and I arrived at 8 pm at night for a week during the busy (and supremely expensive) holiday break to find that the only toilet in the unit was backed up and spewing raw sewage and human waste into the shower. When I called our local property contact, she told us she wanted us to talk directly with the owner because she had had problems with him in the past and thought he should be de-listed from the site, and when the owner called me I was very taken aback by what he said. He told us he KNEW about the toilet backing into the shower because the people who checked out earlier that day had told him about it and so he sent someone over to clean it up (!). (Not a plumber? And why didn't you call us?) When we arrived we were shocked and horrified by what we found. He told us he couldn't get a plumber till Monday (ie, in two days), and said we could use the toilet in the upstairs unit in the meantime, they were his friends - in fact, he said, we could STAY with them they're really nice. (I'm a single mother with two kids - are you serious?) Long story short: I scrambled and ended up checking my family into the only hotel room I could find at 10 pm, and then hustled to find another place for us for the week which was nearly impossible because it was Christmas. Dealing with VRBO for compensation has been a huge hassle too, and several weeks later I still haven't been paid for the hotel fiasco. This place is a disaster - stay here at your peril. No, better yet, stay home.

  - We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered and hope that the measures taken by Evolve immediately issuing your full refund made up for any inconvenience.
  - We do our best to keep up with the maintenance of our home. Unfortunately, a previous guest had dropped a plastic item down the toilet, unbeknown to us at the time. You are correct, it had backed up once before, but after having a plumber come out, we thought the issue was resolved. It was not until you reached out to us that we were aware the same issue had occurred.
  - It was never my intention to appear uncaring and not concerned with the issue. I was simply trying to do all I could to accommodate you while trying to find a plumber, that could come out and fix the problem. We were successful in finding a plumber that was willing to come out that same evening, unfortunately, you had already made the decision to find other accommodations. The plumber was able to resolve the issue, it was only at this time we were aware that a plastic object had been dropped down the toilet.
  We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.
