The condo in Groveland has tons of room and is very comfortable. The large decks and split levels make it seem extra roomy. The kitchen was decently stocked for cooking and the location was great! Our only issue was cleanliness. There was trash left in the trash cans and the kitchen counter had not been cleaned.
I booked this property and, from the photos online, I expected a 3-4 star property. I was disappointed with many aspects of the property.
1. The cleaning was substandard. There was a rotten tomato in the refrigerator. The trash in the kitchen was overflowing upon arrival. There were cobwebs on the headboard of one of the beds, and cobwebs on the curtains in another room. There was a dirty pan in the oven and many of the pots and pans in the cabinet were greasy. I felt the need to wash everything before I used it.
2. Several of the amenities were empty (shampoo, soap, etc.). There was a box of sugar in the cabinet, which we were happy to find for our hot tea, but we took it out of the cabinet, it was empty. Can I say, based on the quality of everything else, we were not surprised and it was good for a good laugh.
3. The laundry detergent scent was incredibly strong - I couldn't get the towels or washcloths near my face or my eyes would start itching and burning. I suggest using less detergent, or maybe something unscented.
4. Everything in the property is antiquated - microwave must have been from the 1970s and the oven wasn't much better.
5. The thermostat is located right above a heating vent in the floor, so when you turned the heat on, it would shut off before the condo was even close to being warm. We had to cover the vent to get the heat to stay on.
6. I called the owner upon arrival to determine where to throw the trash that had been not-so-kindly left for us to deal with, but never received a response.
7. The stairs seemed exceedingly steep. There are stairs all over the property - not at all suitable for anyone who can't handle a lot of stairs. There is one bedroom and bathroom on the main level, but to reach anything else there are stairs - down to the kitchen, down further to the living room, up to the second bedroom, up again to the third bedroom.
8. Is it possible to purchase something even worse than 1-ply toilet paper? If so, they found it.
9. No tissue boxes anywhere. And it's tough to blow your nose into half-ply paper.
Hi Elisa, we want our guests to arrive at a vacation home that is 100% ready for their stay, so we take the cleanliness of our properties seriously! We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
- We will address your concerns regarding the cleanliness of the kitchen and bedroom with the cleaning company so this issue does not affect future guests.
- As is standard in the vacation rental industry, the homeowner provides a starter amount of toiletries and other essential supplies for our guests. Generic products may be offered at times to accommodate all guest comfort and preferences. We apologize if the products provided did not fit your needs but we'll be sure to make sure they're fully stocked for guest arrival.
- We're also confused about the comment on the thermostat; after living at this property for months, and never having that issue, we'd need a little more details about what you're describing so we can ensure future guests are not impacted.
- After double-checking, we can confirm that we mention the stairs on the listing and state that because of the need for stairs to access some bedrooms and bathrooms, it may be difficult for guests with limited mobility; however, we're sorry that this caught you off guard.
We've addressed your comments with the relevant teams so that future guests will receive the exceptional service we strive to provide. Thank you for providing such valuable feedback.
