We enjoyed our stay in this adorable little cabin in the woods. Comfy beds, modern appliances, close to Murphy’s and big trees state park. She even had little snacks and a nice bottle of wine waiting for us!

We spent 4 days at The Roost Cabin enjoying cross-country winter activities in the surrounding Bear Valley area. The cabin is beautifully situated in a quiet forest landscape and offers a nice getaway in the woods. Our host Marylin was very communicative and quickly responded to all requests. There are a few quirks (TV is located in an awkwardly high position above the mantle, a low-hanging light immediately above the couch which I guarantee you’ll hit with your head, worn and lumpy couch cushions, empty amenities in the bathroom), but overall, The Roost Cabin is a pleasant stay! One note of caution: The driveway is somewhat steep at the beginning and levels off to a flatter parking section roughly 25’ up the driveway. We stayed right after a big snowstorm and the parking section was not completely cleared of snow. As a result, I had to park on the sloped section, but came out later in the evening to find the car had slide all the way down the driveway into the street. We had to clear the parking section by hand, re-parked and had no more parking issues. As a final note, there are quite a few add-on fees (VRBO service, host service, cleaning, damage protection) that seem a bit excessive. These fees equated to almost 2 additional “nights”. To Marylin’s credit, she did work with us to refund a portion of the cleaning fee when we found a baited mouse trap in the bathroom inadvertently left by the cleaning service.

The Roost was an adorable cabin in a quiet neighborhood. My husband and I took our two boys (ages 4 & 7) for snow play. We never had to leave the cabin for anything (except for firewood) as we were able to play in the snow right off the deck and the kitchen was very well stocked for all our meals. I was extremely happy with the cleanliness of the cabin, and I have VERY high standards. The cabin stayed warm and cozy with the wood stove. Sitting out on the deck was just so peaceful and beautiful, I’d love to see it in the summer. I appreciated all the hooks available in the living room, bedrooms and bathroom helped keep our items tidy. There is a little reading book upstairs that is so peaceful and perfect for relaxing. It’s clear a lot of love has been put into The Roost and Marilyn was an excellent communicator. Enjoy!
